My relationship with the investigation process is intense, as all I have in the beginning is a clue. I need to be immersed in the subject that interests me in order to find a map that can lead me to a formal synthesis. In the artworks, this is added to technical reinterpretation. The medium is also part of the investigation as it leads to the aesthetic tools that will be used to build an image.
– Leticia Ramos
Leticia Ramos is an artist-scientist who researches the impacts that geological and climatic phenomena can have on the imagination. Drawing on natural events and optical effects, she creates symbolic connections between politics, science, and imagination at the intersection of the future and the past. With a rigorous approach to constructing imaginary landscapes, narratives, and fables, her practice takes form in photography, installation, film, and performance. Through her investigation of the photographic medium and material, she uses models and analog special effects techniques.
Her works are included in collections such as Botín Foundation, New Museum of Monaco, Kadist, Itaú Cultural, Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo, Instituto Moreira Salles, and Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo. She is currently participating in the OCEAN’S EDGE artistic research program, a project conceived by Pivô and Invisible Dust (UK), which combines ocean sciences and contemporary art in an investigation into the future of the Atlantic Ocean.
