"The work is made with found fragments of the original hand railings of "Edificio David Cury" that was built in 1951. It is an iconic building in the centre of Sao Paulo (Republica), I find it very fortunate the dialogue between the sites and the buildings.
Also, it happens to be my studio and I happened to witness the renovation. The curves (linhas tortas :) were not altered at all. I made the composition with the bits that I found, without changing them much, only shifting slightly the fixings.
The patina of the use (time, marks, history, ruins) will be kept adding character to the materiality of the piece.
The new composition makes reference to murals, civic buildings, modernist buildings and urban gardens. The motifs suggest figurative elements (bow and arrows?)/ stylised bodies/ and the elements will have a fluid connection with the curves of the house as well as the gardens. I think of these hidden ( to be revealed) figures as symbolic guardians of the building, a sort of figurehead of a ship. I was actually thinking of Oxossi and the iconography of Ofa (bow and arrow) present in Candomble."
