These monoprints reference Tuymans's three paintings showing a slide projection on his studio wall. These paintings don't have an actual slide, so they only show a faint area of light. This series, called "Slides," is about not showing anything. Tuymans says that images always conduct their end without giving it a shape.

During this time, Tuymans focused on artificial light, like light from projectors, lamps, and TVs, which he used in his paintings. For a special edition at Tate, he decided to revisit this series using onyx, a precious stone with a shiny look. The onyx brightens the soft, milky glow of the painted projector light.
