In Cães sob o Céu Anil [Dogs under the Indigo Sky], the artist deploys Brazilian colloquialisms and popular imagery to shine a critical light on the country’s political and social issues. The image of two dogs sniffing each other’s behinds acts as a powerful metaphor for the cycles of corruption and complicity that have resulted in the normalization of violence and institutionalized intolerance propagated by various groups. The two dogs are entangled in a symbolic darkness, under the stars of the Southern Cross constellation, barking and drooling in front of a banana plantation.
