This installation/mobile by Matthew Lutz-Kinoy is part of a larger project to be presented in September at The Kitchen in New York and performed at Dia Beacon. For this project, Lutz-Kinoy reinterprets the one-act ballet "Filling Station," initially staged by Ballet Caravan in Hartford, CT, in 1938, credited as the first ballet by American creators and performers based on an American theme. The artist reimagines this work viewing its material through a contemporary lens, creating a queered space while reflecting on the work's original themes of race, class, and gender.
