A colossal specimen finds its way onto the shores of De Panne. The symbolism of its outstretched tentacles mirrors Prouvost's own journey, navigating through diverse cultures and forms of communication in multilingual Belgium, much like the creature itself. With tentacles splayed across the sandy expanse, it gingerly explores its surroundings with its suction cups. Guiding the way with a telescope in hand, it offers a path for curious onlookers. Surprisingly, about sixty percent of the octopus's intelligence resides within these very tentacles. Its thoughts, sensations, and motions seamlessly intertwine, showcasing a fusion that defines its strength and survival tactics. This synesthetic ability, the capacity to interconnect sensory impressions, forms the core of its prowess, and this tactility seamlessly permeates Prouvost's body of work. Through succinct maxims, she directly engages the viewer, immersing them in a unique sensorial realm.
Additionally, Prouvost playfully draws parallels between the octopus and human modes of adaptation. The octopus deftly clutches a plug and an assortment of tools with its tentacles, which are adorned with mussels and breast-like formations, evoking a humorous nod to the resourcefulness of human coping mechanisms.
