This series marks a transformative juncture within Rosana Paulino's "Settlement (s)" continuum. It is the culmination of her artistic residency in Belaggio (Italy), followed by meticulous studies that have yielded an assemblage of drawings, paintings, and collages. These elements are interwoven in a manner that intimates the genesis of Brazilian civilization from the perspective of an enslaved African couple. Botany, fauna, and other facets intertwined with biology have consistently held proximity to the artist's heart. Even from her formative years, she nurtured aspirations of becoming a biologist. Nevertheless, it was in 1990 that she embarked on her formal academic pursuit of the arts at USP.
By no mere coincidence, these works bear a striking resemblance to explorations and cartography of human anatomy. Within these pieces, human form segments sometimes unveiled and sometimes clothed, are enshrouded by bones, flora, and feral creatures. The composition evokes a chronological tableau, mirroring the sequential evolution of development.
