In parallel with his assemblage-making, Suga has created many works using various types of paper. In these early examples from the 1970s, he was interested in the inherent thinness of the material, coupled with its varying degrees of transparency. Simple acts of layering, folding, applying tape, and drawing lines with marker pen, create innumerable minimalist relationships between line, field, center, and periphery.
