Among the works presented in Scree is a piece from Nina’s ongoing Hardscapes series, made from a mixture of marine gravel, cement, and carbonated water. These sculptural forms evolved from earlier floor-based works developed in Berlin and Italy, where Nina began exploring the deep material history of cement and concrete and their surprising connection to biomineral forms like shells and coral. Shells—recurrent in her recent work—feature prominently here, embedded into the surface like geological memory. While the use of carbonated water did not alter the material result significantly, it reflects an interest in the chemical and symbolic qualities of carbon. Concrete is a notoriously "thirsty" material—absorbing, leaching, reacting—and this idea of absorption, transformation, and instability is central to Scree as both a title and a thematic anchor.
