Mariana Castillo Deball tem uma abordagem caleidoscópica de sua prática, mediando entre ciência, arqueologia e artes visuais e explorando a maneira como essas campos descrevem o mundo. Suas instalações, performances, esculturas e projetos editoriais surgem da recombinação de diferentes linguagens que buscam compreender o papel que os objetos desempenham em nossa identidade e história. Seus trabalhos resultam de um longo processo de pesquisa, permitindo-lhe estudar as diferentes maneiras pelas quais um objeto histórico pode ser lido, pois apresenta uma versão da realidade que informa e se mescla em um panorama polifônico. Buscando iniciar um diálogo com instituições e museus além da arte contemporânea, ela colabora com coleções etnográficas, bibliotecas e arquivos históricos. Ela frequentemente produz múltiplos - livros ou objetos com diferentes usos e formatos - para explorar como eles podem gerar novos territórios. Abrindo caminho pelos campos da antropologia, filosofia e literatura, Castillo Deball inspira-se em uma ampla gama de recursos, pois se envolve na troca de conhecimento como um processo de transformação para todos os envolvidos.

Castillo Deball obteve um BFA da Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México em 1997. Em 2003, concluiu um programa de pós-graduação na Jan van Eyck Academie, na Holanda. Deball foi premiada com o Prix de Rome (2004), o Zurich Art Prize (2012), uma bolsa de estudos no Henry Moore Institute (2012) e o Preis der Nationalgalerie für junge Kunst (2013). Ela foi artista em residência no Berliner Künstlerprogramm in Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) em 2011.
